Hey all! The official Superhero campaign starts this Tuesday, March 8! The Superhero team had a kickoff party to plan our attack:
And came up with the below schedule of events here in Hawaii. For those of you who aren't in Hawaii, or also want to raise donations, host an event from 08 MAR to 20 MAY!  Throw a  garage sale, dinner party, car wash, poker night, 5k, or just take a bucket around your office.  Send the earnings to LLS and they will send a receipt for your tax-deductable donation.  Call me (808-478-3694) or Alicia (808-261-3020) with questions.

Calling All Superheroes!

Welcome to Superheroes for a cure! Please follow us to get up to date information on the status of the campaign! Between March 8 and May 20, you can DONATE HERE!

Every 4 minutes one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Every ten minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. This statistic represents nearly 148 people each day, or more than six people every hour. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20. In general, the likelihood of dying from most types of leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma decreased from 1998 to 2007 (the most recent data available).

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. LLS's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since the first funding in 1954, LLS has awarded more than $680 million in research funding.

Each year, men and women battle it out in the LLS Man and Woman of the Year campaign. The prize? Hundred's of thousands of dollars raised to fund blood cancer research. Each man and woman of the year raise contributions in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year.
Every dollar raised counts as one vote, and the titles of Man and Woman of the Year are awarded to the candidate with the most votes. Man & Woman of the Year candidates conduct their campaigns as if lives depend on their efforts - because in fact, they do.
Funds raised by Man & Woman of the Year participants are used for:
  • Lifesaving blood cancer research
  • Financial assistance to cover patient expenses for transportation, medication and testing
  • Free educational materials and events for patients and their families
  • Local programs such as Family Support Groups and First Connection, a peer-to-peer counseling program
  • Comprehensive, personalized assistance through our Information Resource Center
This year, Amy Bennett Eck is running as a candidate. The goal? Raise as much money as humanly possible to donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She's assembled her team of superheroes to brainstorm ideas, network philanthropists, and generally kick butt by raising money. What's the best part of kicking butt in this competition?? Everyone WANTS to kick butt, and there are NO LOSERS! More butt-kicking = more money to fund research for cures!

So grab your cape, come on out and be a superhero! DONATE HERE starting March 8! Spread the word! Tell your friends! Follow our blog or sign up for email updates and get ready for the ride of your life!
